Eamon

We met the writer and director of this special film (Margaret Corkery) in Karlovy Vary last summer. She won a prize from one of the independent juries for this film which was funded by the Irish Film Board.

It was sold out in Karlovy Vary and was later picked up by a distributor and now showing in Ireland (and had a limited release in the U.S. I believe...).

An Irish road trip story centered around a mother and son, Eamon is a fun, quirky, and entertaining little film.

One Hundred Mornings

A post-apocalyptic film set in the Wicklow mountains, this story reminded me of the yet to be released Cormac McCarthy film "The Road" and a play ("The Birds" by Conor McPherson) that we recently took in at The Gate Theater here in Dublin.

Without the distractions of modern daily life (television, shopping, work, school, shopping, television, work, shopping...) when survival means the true necessities of life -- food and shelter -- who can you trust and how far will your moral compass take you?

His and Hers

A Sundance winner (for Cinematography), this Irish documentary won the overall Audience Favorite Film Award at this year's JDIFF.

Set in the Irish Midlands, and inspired by the director's mother, this film showcases numerous women of all ages and says much about the impact that men have on the opposite sex...

Highly recommended.

Waiting for Godot

Much has been written about this Beckett masterpiece. Some say it is the best play every written from what is known as the "Theater of the Absurd."

Because of its minimalism it has been interpreted with a wide range of political, psychological, and theological meanings.

It will keep you thinking far after the final curtain has been lowered.

Sir Ian McKellan was truly amazing in the role of Estragon. Acting performances like this are why live theater will always be with us...

Chinatown

London's Chinatown... February 14 marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year in this Year of the Tiger.

Romeo and Juliet

The Royal Ballet's performance of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet...

Our first visit to the Royal Opera House since its restoration some years ago.

The house was packed for this special Valentine's Weekend performance.

The Misanthrope

Keira Knightley, in her West End debut, starred as Celimene in Moliere's play.

Keira's presence filled the house, however, this modern adaptation of a very witty piece of theater seemed flat and uninspired...
