Kenya

A little off topic but of far more importance…

If you a person of prayer, please say one for the people of Kenya. Violence has continued and even escalated after December’s contested presidential election. Approximately 900 people have died and as many as 250,000 displaced. Victims of the bloodshed include politicians and Catholic priests.

Kenya has more than 40 tribes and much of the violence has been tribal-based. We should have learned something from the past but history keeps repeating itself: Hutu vs. Tutsi, Shark vs. Jet, Crip vs. Blood, and now Kikuyu vs. Luo.

I spent some time in Nairobi a few summers ago doing research for a documentary. These are good people trying to find a way out of residual corruption. I pray for the safety of Fr. Andrew and the people of Dandora and Bro. Cleophas and the inhabitants of Kibera including John M., and the many others I was fortunate to spend time with…
