Mammoth

Though boasting a Swedish director (Lukas Moodysoon), this is an American film through and through.

Starring Michelle Williams and Gael Garcia Bernal this is a big budget film which treads similar ground as both "Babel" and "Lost in Translation" and the treading itself is worn and tired.

Set in New York City, Bangkok and Manila this is very much a film about isolation, loneliness, and disconnection.

A wealthy American couple has a foreign nanny that requires her attention back in her home country (the needs of her own children).  Meanwhile one of the parents has trouble of their own in a separate foreign country.  Sound familiar?

Covering similar dramatic territory as Lisa Loomer's play "Living Out" this is an overly long film showcasing spoiled and disconnected parents interested only in their own problems.  The real victims here are the children (both the American couple's as well as the Filipino nanny's).

I can't really recommend this as a film for our jury, however it might be of interest if there's nothing else showing at your particular cinema this weekend...
