A film from Norway that was one of my favorites from this year's festival.
Eivend, as you see here in the movie poster, has lived a full yet uneventful life. All of which is now behind him.
This is a man with much regret.
This is a story, above all, which is about redemption. This is a man who is trying to redeem himself before it's too late. We never find out if he succeeds but he makes the effort nevertheless and that is more than can be said for most of us.
I found it to be a very rewarding film experience. A simple story with beautiful cinematography. His boat "Jernanger" is a metaphor for his life. Run down and neglected, he makes a last ditch effort to impress a long lost love from his past to leave a lasting impression with his presence here on this earth before he departs.
A much deeper film than it gets credit for...
