Day 10 - Friday

Texas Killing Fields

Our final film from the Official Competition.

Directed by Michael Mann's daughter, Ami Mann, this story is based on true events. More than 60 girls and women have been murdered over several decades and their bodies buried in a remote area 30 miles south of Houston known as the "Killing Fields."

Sam Worthington and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are both excellent as the detectives responsible for catching the killer.

A dark and well-made film. Ami Mann inherited some of her directorial style from her father.

Ami joins Poulet aux prunes director Marjane Sarapi, A Simple Life director Ann Hui, Quando la notte director Cristina Comencini, and Wuthering Heights director Andrea Arnold as the five female directors from the Official Competition's 22 films.
