Day 2 - Thursday

Un été brûlant

A French film set in Italy.

One word -- boring.

If you enjoy watching a young artist pout for 95 minutes then this is a film for you. An unemployed French man and his girlfriend visit the artist and his wife in Rome and pouting ensues...

I think that the only reason that this film was able to be made was that the director got Monica Bellucci to play the artist's wife. Not too convincing either as she's 19 years older than the actor who plays her husband.

It wasn't until the press conference later that I found out that the lead actor is the director's son. Alaas, nepotism is alive and well in the French film industry...

Warriiors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale

A movie from Taiwan that highlights the plight of the aboriginal tribes that were domesticated by the invading Japanese at the end of the 19th Century.

A bit Cowboy and Indian, this film follows the events escalating towards the revolt led by tribal leader Mouna Rudo in leading a coalition of tribes in a battle for their freedom against the ruling Japanese.

Much money was put into this special effects laden film though I'm not sure the final result can be recommended as an admirable film.

Interesting as a history lesson though...
