The Lido is home to approximately 20,000 residents and there is much more space to breathe and move about here. Known as the Golden Island, many Italians have palatial summer villas here.
The east side of the 11 km long island has sandy beaches facing the Adriatic Sea.
The Lido is also home to the Grand Hotel des Bains, the setting for Thomas Mann's novel Death in Venice.
